Hi Antinode,
Firstly thanks for the feedback
The echolife is what is on the link you attached so yes it’s an ONT box
I have tried testing connecting the XR500 direct to the echo life but when I looked on the interface of the XR500 is stated that the internet was disconnected and the internet light on the XR500 was orange instead of white
Could it be that the echo life unit needs reconfiguring if the D6400 unit is not going to do anything
Thanks

I have no idea how your Smart Hub 2 was configured, or how you've
configured the XR500. Does the Smart Hub 2 use a PPPoE connection
(which you haven't mentioned to the XR5000)?
Have you asked BT about how to configure a third-party router with
their service? Web search?
> Could it be that the echo life unit needs reconfiguring [...]
I doubt it. Its whole purpose in life is to convert optical signals
in a fiber from/to electrical signals (Ethernet).
- Fish41Apr 08, 2020AspirantI will check for PPPoE on the xr500 and feedback to you
I’ve logged into the admin page of the smart hub but cannot find any PPPoE reference on any of the tabs but looking at BT forums people state it is PPoE
Are you thinking I should be able to connect direct from the ONT WAN port to the XR500, I thought the XR500 needed its own modem?- antinodeApr 08, 2020Guru

It would, if you had cable-TV-type or DSL service, which get signals
on a coaxial cable or phone line, respectively. The modems for those
signal types convert signals of those types to Ethernet-type signals.
Your ONT already provides an Ethernet port. For info on PPPoE on an XR500, visit http://netgear.com/support , put
in your model number, and look for Documentation. Get the User Manual.
Read. Look for "Specify an Internet Connection That Uses a Login".- Fish41Apr 09, 2020AspirantHi Antinode,
Just wanted to provide you with an update regarding connection of the XR500
With thanks to you I’m happy to confirm that I’m up and running with the XR500 connected direct to the ONT box
As you guided the XR500 internet setup needed changing!
Thank you again so much for your help, without it I would have really struggled and probably wasted a load of money along the way!
