when I first got the router it had phenomenal speed supporting 802.11 ac. now that the new firmware v2.02.08 has installed the router no longer sports 802.11 ac and the gui has changed taking away so...

The C3700 is a 802.11n gateway (the N600 means it supports max link speeds of 300 mbits in each band, and the throughput will be much lower than this). It does not support 802.11ac By current standards it is a low-end model.
What speeds were you seeing before, and what speeds are you seeing now?

at first activation i was seeing 106 Mbps down and 6 Mbps up. Now its 49 Mbps down and 6 Mbps up. The only thing i can think of is the new firmware no longer supports the 802.11 ac. when I log on to the router wireless settings it shows the 2.4ghz band supporting a,b,g,n and the 5 ghz supporting a/n. the router does or did at one point here is the link on the tech specs http://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/cable-modems-routers/C3700.aspx#tab-techspecs

As StephenB indicated, your router has never supported. AC, only .N. From the link you posted. That is a far cry from .AC.

Trust us, it never supported 802.11ac. But I believe you are seeing a real slowdown.
Are you testing this using 2.4 ghz or 5 ghz?
If it is 2.4 ghz, then perhaps try changing the wifi channel. It's possible that a neighbor's wifi signal is causing your wifi to downspeed (from 40 mhz channels to 20 mhz).
Also, are you testing with a new client? Or are you using the same client as before?
Finally - can you test with ethernet, just to get a benchmark?

the speed that i am talking about is 5 Ghz.
