The c3700 modem was always working as n netgear router it has 1 gb ports here is a link to the data sheet for it http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/datasheet/en/C3700.pdf.
You may need to do a reset on the modem get back to your 106 mb's.
Are your speeds that you are posting wired or wifi?

http://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/cable-modems-routers/C3700.aspx#tab-techspecs so this is a lie just to sell the router and this is from the netgear site. So Netgear lied about the specs online to sell a low end router. i guess i will not buy netgear again

Sorry that you feel you were misleaded somehow but specs never said it was ac router if just firmware would turn a n router into ac router everyone would do it to their's it is not possible the hardware needed is not there.
As to the speed problem has your isp reset the modem on their end.

I see where you are coming from, and I have forwarded the link to Netgear folks. I believe it's an error in the techspecs.
That said, do you still want to work on the performance problem?
I suggest the next step is to confirm the speed drop is wifi-only by testing with a wired ethernet device.
Assuming that is confirmed, I'd then do a factory reset on the gateway, and reconfigure it from scratch. You probably should document all your settings first. But don't save the config and restore it after the reset - sometimes the settings get corrupted after a firmware upgrade.

Reading fact sheet closer I see that the problem it only shows that the people who write the product sheets are only human they were off by one line I guess that happens now and then when a company sales different standards with n as the old stand and ac as the most used standard on new routers.
