Only 1 ethernet port (of 2) works on AC1200 Cable Modem Router (C6230)

Only 1 ethernet port (of 2) works on 16x4 DS3.0 AC1200 Cable Modem Router (C6230).

Other port, and wifi, still work.

How do I fix, or does that mean it's dying and needs to be replaced?

  • NOTE: I'd prefer to NOT do a full factory-reset, and have to set everything up all over again, and lose all the saved IP addresses too, if that won't even have a chance of fixing this type of issue anyway.

Do a back up configuration to file:

    https://kb.netgear.com/24231/How-do-I-back-up-the-router-configuration-settings-on-my-Nighthawk-router

Then try a factory reset and setup from scratch to see if the ethernet ports return to working order. I'd do a full power OFF after pressing the reset button for 15 seconds then release, give 5 seconds after releasing the reset button and power OFF the unit. Give 10 seconds then power back ON.

Apply the saved configuration from file to bring back the system to existing configuration.

If that fails, and you only get one or two ethernet ports working you could install a external Non managed 1Gb LAN swithch 5-8 port unit and have additional ports that you need. NG GS105 or 108 series would work.

Otherwise, ya, could be the gateway is failing and needs to be replaced.

I think you meant this one?

Ya that KB. Seems like my link was changed at the source. I'll update my notes.

        Factory reset didn't work.  Unfortunately.

BTW - What's with all the surveillance needed to set up and account and all after a factory reset?  I had forgotten how intrusive it is now.  Used to just plug it in and go.  Now they require contact info and setting up an account.  Privacy is dying.

It is probably too late now, but there is no requirement to "set up an account" to configure a Netgear router after a factory reset.  Most customers choose to register their products with Netgear, but it is not required.  The smartphone 'app' works only when connected to a Netgear account, but the web configuration does not require an account.
