What zyxel modem? They make a bunch of models.
Include modem/router combo devices.
If that's what you have, it could be a double nat issue.

What firmware is on the router?
- Zyxel model is VMG4825-B10A. It is a modem/router model but is setup and used as a bridge modem bc I’ve always had my own router I use with it. I am replacing a Netgear N600 router I’ve been using. Nighthawk firmware is unknown bc I can’t get though the setup process to access its info
The VMG4825 isn't exactly known for great firmware.
Easy test to see if everythings working but the netgear isn't getting the proper connection from theVMG4825?
simply put the zyxel back in router mode and put the netgear an AP mode. If it works and runs as it should, then we'd need to work on fixing the issue with the zyxel.
AP mode does disable some features on the netgear which is why its more of a test. If you don't use those features, you could simply leave it as is. If you want those features to be handled by the netgear and not the zyxel, then we'd further research getting the zyxel working properly.
