Netgear has known of these issues for a couple years. They developed a beta firmware that solved or masked the issue but never made an official release. Several here were permitted access by signing an NDA and reported the issue was resolved.
I finally solved my Netgear issues with a Hitron CODA56 and a GL-MT6000 flashed to OpenWRT. My son inherited the CAX80 with full disclosure of its limitations. He texted last night that the power light was red and the power conversion portion of the board was clicking and buzzing. The weather had just warmed dramatically. IMO the device is poorly designed thermally. Son has an MT6000 on order.

I keep a external cooling fan under any modem and router I have online. Heat is a electrioncs foe.
