OK. Will explore solution in near future. In the meantime, can anyone elucidate the problem hiw US power causes (i.e. what are the symptoms)?

you will suddenly loose US bonding (and thats why you see Amber US light since it is working in single US channel mode)
AND/OR you will partial US service
AND/OR you see lot of T3/T4 as well when modem cannot push even more power.
