Re: model: C6250 AC1600 WiFi cable modem/router can't reset IP from Zurich IP

I am located in Florida using WOW as my internet provider. I have been using this modem/router for over a year. 2 days ago my laptop started getting blocked messages from some websites and the Roku TV was denied access to a streamming TV channel. When I checked my IP it was listed as being in Zurich. What I have done so far to try and solve the issue: Turned everything off (TV, computer, modem) and turned back on a few minutes later. Released the IP and asked for a new one. Updated the TV channel app (at the suggestion of their tech support) and finally did a hard reset on the modem/router to no avail, the IP keeps coming back as in Zurich and my ISP is also listed in Zurich.

I bought into a VPN service to be able to access these blocked sites and the TV channel with the computer and it works, but the Roku TV still won't access due to not being connected to the VPN.

I tried downloading a new firmware from the netgear site but it says that the firmware updates are pushed down by my ISP. Well my ISP is showing as being in Zurich and I have no idea who they are.

Questions:

Should I get a new router?

Is there a way to download new firmware for this model?

Is this a virus?

Thank you in advance for your help!

You might talk to your ISP about getting a new IP address from them. They are the ones handling IPs that get assigned to the modem.

Try a full factory reset on the modem and setup from scratch as last resort.
