reset SSID and security key
Router 20 feet from PC (where cable enters dwelling); can bring router to PC but not PC to router; if I bring router to PC must a cable connection be maintained? Router had reset to factory default....
Question not clear.
What trying to do?
Can you change to your own SSID and security kwithout a direct Ethernet connection?
Tried Netgear genie? (Desktop and/or mobile app.)
Apologize for not being clear. I'll try another way.1. my router reset itself to factory settings;
2. I would like to rerset my SSID and security key to what I had before the reset. 3. My problem is my desktop is twenty feet away from my router, so bringing the computer to connect to the router is impractical unless I can find a 20 foot ethernet cord! 4.So, if I bring the router to the desktop I can connect to the desktop but if I do that I will have to disconnect the cable;does the cable have to be connected for the reset to be completed?
5. At the moment my other computer, ( laptop) just crashed so I don't have that option until I figure out what I am going to replace it with. Any enlightenment would be appreciated thanks, Don
Have you looked into using the Netgear desktop genie?

Around here, 25- and 50-foot cables are easily available, but you
probably don't really need one.

That was the unclear part. "the cable" could mean _any_ cable. I
assumed that you were talking about a cable between your PC and the
router. You now seem to mean a cable from the router's WAN/Internet
port to something (like a cable-TV modem or fiber box) which provides
your ISP connection.
You don't need an Internet connection to reset your router, or to
configure its wireless-network parameters. All you need for these tasks
is some kind of connection (wired or wireless) between some computer and
the router.
