Securiry update for new purchase??
I had an older Nighthawk 7100 and have my internet through xfinity. I was paying for speeds up to 800mps but was only getting 250mps. I was also getting a lot of fluctuation in speeds when I did a speed check. I could be at 250mps and then I'll do a speed check 10 min later and I'm at 15mps. I called xfinity and they said everything was fine on their end and to call Netgear to see if it was my modem. I talked to netgear support and the tech support said they see multiple errors on my modem and that I would need to buy the three year security plan and that would fix my speed issues and put me on a private network. I have never heard of such a thing and when I told the guy I was going to think about it he just hung up on me. Which raised my concerns.
So I bought a new nighthawk router c7000v and my speeds were a little better at 300mps but I was still not getting the 800mps I was paying for. Again xfinity ran a bunch of checks and said that a good signal is getting into the router but it's something in the router that is the problem. Well since I just bought this router I was thinking I must've screwed something up during set up. I talked to tech support and the lady said that she ran a check and I had errors and need a security upgrade for 150 for three years or I could buy the lifetime for like $400. I was skeptical as it did t make sense that I would pay $200 for a modem and then have to pay another $150 for it to even work properly. The lady said netgear made the decision in March of 23 to require all modem and routers to reuire this upgrade and that will be the only way I can reach the speeds I pay for with xfinity. I told her I would think about it and she hung up on me too. Is this some scam stuff going on here? I mean this is a brand new router I shouldn't have issues with speed. Can anyone tell me of a fix to get more speed??

Netgear support is free for 90 days after purchase. Do not use a web search. Here is the process for making contact.

If your 90 days is past, you can get some good help here for no charge.
What is the firmware version that is installed on your C7000v?
When you test for throughput, are you connected via an Ethernet cable or via Wi-Fi? If Wi-Fi, what band 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz?
Recommend you use the Ookla stand alone installable test application for throughput testing. Avoid those that use a web browser, they just add a needless layer. Available in the play store.
This is just a start. More questions will follow if you are past your 90 days.
