The Future of CM2000
Does NETGEAR intend to (eventually) enhance the CM2000 through a firmware update to enable improved upload speeds on the Xfinity “10G” next generation network, as are now available with the CM3000 -...

Honestly… I feel like Netgear and Xfinity gave up on the CM2000 … in favor of the CM3000.
I had the CM1200 which is rock solid…. But it lacked a multi-gig port, and the aggregated ports worked but oddly and repeatedly deteriorated after 24 hours. A reboot fixed the issue.
So I was researching the CM2000 when I noticed the CM3000 was on the preferred list… so I waited a few months until it was available and picked up the CM3000 2 months ago.
Needless to say, Xfinity is all about the split tunnel… and upselling their faster service. Given the demonstrated lack of support for the CM2000…. Not sure what else to say.

The really sad part now is after looking at Xfinity's website, I spend $30/month extra to get unlimited data (6 people in the house that all use a lot of Internet), their xfi complete modem is $25/month to rent (only $10/month rn for 24 months) and comes with unlimited data at no extra charge beyond renting the modem. At this point the decision is a no brainer, no point in buying my own if I can get cheaper Internet by just renting their equipment.

On the positive, I still believe in having my own hardware. Xfinity used to use their hardware to provide public wifi… not sure if they still do that but that was the “fine print” for giving unlimited… also their hardware is not premium quality if you have a gamer in the house or lots of connected devices streaming. My dual band RAX 120 wifi router has 8 antennas and we stream all the time without problems.
We also only have 4-5 people in the house, so we very rarely go over the cap. When we do, I get zinged for $10 or 20 at the most.
You can cut your losses and switch plans… or if you have 1.2Gbs service, buy the CM3000. If you only have 1Gb service you can get the CM1200 cheaper now. But it’s a bummer that the CM2000 is not getting love. At one point it was on the preferred list… and then removed due to problems. I would complain…
