Hard to make some suggestions since users needs and use differ. Why there is wide range of routers available for users needs. Kind of up to users to find what best suites there needs.
Take in to account house size, building materials and surroundinds will effect wifi coverage and performances.
Take in to account what devices you have and what you do with them as well. Types of uses are gernal internet useage, gaming, video streaming, camera operations and new IoT devcies like Echo Dot and such.
Lots of considerations and factors to think about to decide what kind of router system you want and need.

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
Whats your ISP? Cable? DSL? Fiber? I recommend you first contact them to see what they officially support for user bought modems. Some ISPs don't allow this or have a limited list of models they support.
