What are we supposed to do when ISP's say they don't update customer-owned modems (CM500)?
FURRYe38 What are we supposed to do when ISP's say they don't update customer-owned modems (CM500)? I've supplied my own to avoid the rentals fees and they say to reach out to Netgear...

The Netgear support web site does not show any "Downloads" for the CM500. Nor does the User Manual mention anything about firmware updates. The Product Data Sheet claims the CM500 is compatible with the major cable providers:
Like you, my assumption has been that once the modem is connected to the cable provider, they are entirely "in charge" of it. (setting parameters, maintaining firmware, etc.)
- How have you determined that this modem requires a firmware update?
- Which ISP is this?

Just going by their site, mine is currently on 1.05. Since Optimum "no longer allows" DOCSIS 3.0, I'm not putting any more effort in getting it updated. Plus, it's working fine so an update is not critical.

Run it until it quits or the ISP no longer supports it on there network.
Enjoy.
