In my opinion, I wouldn't replace it with a modem router combo. I don't like them combined as then the ISP controls the firmware and they usually don't update it for security. it does cost a bit extra to seperate out the modem and router but its worth it in ability to update the router, ability to replace a single one of the devices as needed, and the additional controls it gives you.
Additionally, if you're using quite a bit of bandwidth, 3000sqft is starting to push the limits of single router solutions.

What would you recommend? My Netgear c3700 is not working well. I believe it’s lived it’s life.

So a couple questions.
what speeds are you paying for and wanting? the C3700 is good roughly to 100mbps
How much area are you trying to cover? That and budget is going to be a key points with any router.
What issues are you having? The C3700 isn't the fastest wireless device or faster internet service device but depending on your usage, troubleshooting might not be a bad idea. Especially if its a modem/line issue and not a router issue.

Thanks, I've done all of the troubleshooting and so has my ISP. I've decided to bite the bullet and go with the Orbi mesh system. It's what the layout of my house requires.
