Why do I have to constantly restart my C3700 router?

Since I purchased this router from Netgear, I have to restart (hard reset?) it at least 2 or 3 times a week.  It's become exasperating.  I purchased it to replace a RCA modem/wireless router combo that I had been renting from Comcast which rarely, IF EVER, had to be restarted.  From what I have read on various boards and websites, it appears to be a problem with a number of people who have Netgear routers.  Again, the only thing I have to compare it to is the previous modem/router supplied by Comcast which I had for several years.  Again, I rarely had to restart it.

I've discovered that firmware updates are pushed out by my ISP (Comcast), so that's not something I can do.  It's the SAME service from Comcast but my experience with this Netgear router has been horrendous.  Is there anything else I can do to troubleshoot this?

    Hello Buck_W

You can post the logs when you have to restart the modem see if we can find a issue with the disconnects.

Thank you for responding Darren. I ended up calling Netgear's tech support, thinking it might need to be repaired.  The tech was extremely helpful.  He helped me tweak several settings.  Not only is it no longer disconnecting, the speed has more than doubled!  Thanks again!

  • Dear subscriber:

Do you remember what the tech asked you to tweak?  I am having the same problem you had and it only started about 2 weeks ago. My problem is that my disconnect happens during downloads or "Go to Meeting" conferences. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
