Why does ISP get to control my modem/router?
I bought this modem/router myself, why does my ISP get to decide when it updates? To the point where the update button is missing. I bought this router to get away from them doing that with the equip...

The reason why is that they partition your modem for a specific speed that you pay for. This is through the firmware/software controlling the device. Otherwise to many could manually enter the modem software and set it for gig service when they're only paying for 100mbps. Unfortunately in the modem/router combo device, its integrated so they control both. Maybe in the future, a company will develop a combo device that has the router firmware seperate from the modem but not currently.
To get away from this, you need to purchase a modem and router separate. If you just bought the C7000, you can return it and purchase a modem seperate from the router.
