Why does ISP get to control my modem/router?
I bought this modem/router myself, why does my ISP get to decide when it updates? To the point where the update button is missing. I bought this router to get away from them doing that with the equip...

Cable-TV architecture does not physically isolate customers from each
other, so loss of control over firmware could cause a serious security
problem. The concern over customer-equipment MAC addresses stems from
the same source.

If you get a separate modem and router, then only the modem firmware
is similarly restricted, not the router firmware.
