If your trying to connect a external router to the C3700, this alreay has a built in router. To connect a external router to the C3700, you would first need to put the C3700 into modem only mode. Not sure if it's the same as my C7800, however mine has a NAT Mode menu option. When enabled the router portion of the modem is enabled. If you DISABLE NAT mode, then this disabled the router portion of the modem and makes it a modem only.
Review the user manual for this feature. If you can get the C3700 into modem only mode, then you can connect the external router.
The reason for the problem is that the IP address between the two are in conflict and maybe using the same LAN IP address. Putting the C3700 into modem mode will fix this.

ok i jsur tried to connect the r6300 router to my modem and it will not connect. i truned of the ssid and it fail then i turne of the router mode and it failed then i turned both off and it failed. i can't turn of the ac mode ther is no check box for that. so my guess it this unit can not be combined with another router. or the router itself is bad.
tell me can i get any router to be set up with a vpn service. a guy in the ip cam site is calling an **bleep** because i tell him you guys are saying those vpns are not free. so who is correct yo or him?

ok still trying to do this. so now i have anoter issue. i go the c3700 manual and it said i need to bridge the r6300 to the c3700 combo unit and to do that it said i have to turn off the router mode in the c3700 modem. i did that and the router still will not get me on the internet. i have the yellow portt on the router plugged into the #1 port on the modem. so what might be going on? after doing this a number of different ways i tried turning off the router and the ssid on the modem and all i could see was my hime items. and that made me reset the modem a number of times.
then today just for the heck of it i took the 6300 router upstairs and plugged the router into a network switch i have so i can connect my pc's to the modem. i was told i needed a network switch to connect multiple items in the modem and it works, however in doing that i unplugged my pc and it connected via wifi. then i plugged that cable into the back of this 6300 router into one of the 4 ports not the yellow port. and it then let me on the internet. but what i was trying to do was get the router to be by itself so i could hook up the network switch i have downstairs to it. i have a larger switch down stairs by the modem and a smaller one up by my pc.
this time i left the router mode switch alone and i was able to get on the internet. but then my cameras and phone would jump back and forth between both the modem combo unit and the r6300 router.
i had that before and was told to just get another larger faster combo unit. so i'm lost with this. it seem no matter what i try based on instruction i get for helpful people nothing works. the ip cam site told me i need to get a router that has the vpn on it but the router makers tell me they don't make them and then i find out you need to reflash them to get that service to work. the other forums tells me those are free on the routers. thas is another story just saying what i'm up against. so any help with this sure will be welcome. thanks
