WIFI Speeds C7800 capping out around 200mbps
Hello, I recently purchased the Nighthawk X4S-AC3200 cable modem router from Amazon.com as an upgrade for my xfinity internet service. I am subscribed to the 1000mbps plan. I understand that wifi...

Wifi is tough to test with because so much depends on the devices you're using.
Even the iphone that your testing with the 6 plus, testing showed that it routinely hits MAX speed of 280mbps because it was first generation wireless ac. (this is all from research as I don't have a 6 plus)
I know you think you're wifi isn't doing what it should but you're either testing with older equipment, single antenna solutions, or usb solutions thats reliant on the usb bus.
I've actually used a c7800 for a while and could routinely hit 400-500mbps on a gigabit plan over wireless. But this was using an intel 9260 or Samsung s9.
so I'm not sure what to tell you. You can try factory resetting and starting over. You could also try borrowing someone's laptop/phone that is a newer device to see if even the newer equipment is limited.

The PHY speed of a device is key. Googling iPhone 6 plus, it appears that is 802.11ac and no MIMO. That means the maximum PHY speed (feet from the router) is 433 Mbps (80 Mhz channel). But then due to Wi-Fi overhead, you only expect 50% to 70% of PHY speeds within apps. So, expect 216 Mbps to 303 Mbps. In personal testing I see around 55% of PHY speeds.
With any newer smartphone, you can expect 2x2 MIMO and 802.11ac, which works out to a maximum PHY of 866 Mbps. Then, expect actual speed tests 'around' 476 Mbps (55% of PHY).
And these are maximum speeds. You may be sharing wifi spectrum with others, with neighbors, etc. And then as you put distance between you and the router, expect speeds to drop with increased distance.

- RangerDangerJan 10, 2020AspirantThanks y’all for your help! I’ve read thru the duckware site you linked and while some of it is like reading Spanish for me I get the jist of it. I am gonna have my buddy come over w his newer phone and laptop to test and I guess look into getting a new network card for the PC. It’s just the technology struggle haha spent 2800 on the computer 3 years ago and already light years behind w this one.
I do plan on installing patch panels , switch and dropping cable lines thruout the house this year, I guess that’ll be the only real way to take full advantage of my internet.
I appreciate yalls help!
