Wifi turns off when trying to use Laptop

Everytime I try to use my Asus 2-in-1 laptop I cant even turn it on and connect it to wifi without the wifi signal going off completely for all my devices. I have to reset the modem to get a wifi connection on my phone again. Ive even unplugged and restarted both multiple times and come up with the same issue. I just moved into the house and my roommate has been living here for about 2 years and I'm assuming he's had the same modem and everything and he doesn't seem to have an issue connecting his laptop. I never had this problem when I lived at my parents house. If someone could give me some help that'd be great.
