Wireless on my c7100v is dying

I'm trying to do the same thing as the wireless on my c7100v is dying.  I've turned off the wireless as per the instructions for the c7100 and connected an old r6300v2 but it is not seeing the connection between the devices.  There must be some setting in the r6300 that I need to setup to get it to work but I can't figure it out.  There is an option to use the 6300 as an access point and you can set an IP address but it "does not recommend".  Please help as right now my wireless speeds are next to worthless and I don't want to buy a new modem yet.

turning off the wireless doesn't disable the routing.

I'd go in and put the c7100v in modem only mode.

(I'd probably look at a router upgrade to as the R6300v2 is pretty old)
