Wireless speed issue for my N600 C3700model
Hi, I've been looking to resolve this wireless issue with my current Netgear. I've checked everywhere and I couldn't seem to find the a remedy for this. My provisional speed from Xfinity is 200 Mbps f...

Hi Michael, I am fully aware that I won't be able to get the my provisioned speed especially in wireless. But as per theoretical throughtput, I should get atleast 60% of my actual speed which is 120 mbps. That's the problem, I'm only getting close to half which is not acceptable. I started to think that it's because of my router. I was really hoping that there's a way to tweak the configuration to possibly attain that speed.
Also, I compared this to my grandparents house. We have an identical plan, and I'm getting around 120-150 mbps there when I run my speetest. The only difference is that they're using the xfinity provided modem and I'm not. I guess you only get what you're paying for. To avoid paying $10 extra per month, I decided to get a cheap router without even thinking that I'd compromise the quality when it comes to performance. I've always thought that NETGEAR is a great router compared to their competitors but this proves to be wrong. You can't even contact their customer service without paying a darn fee!
I really appreciate your time getting back at me! Thanks!

That will depend on the wifi clients. 120Mbps is probably faster than some older wifi clients can manage.

I'm afraid cheap may sum it up. You bought an "N600" device. N600, a label that describes the wifi speed of your device, is decidedly slow wifi technology.
That's out of date, but you get the point.
The speed you get is not great even by those standards, but real performances never live up to marketing hype. You even have to factor in the material they used to build your home.
Cable modems come in various flavours of wifi. The C6250 is "AC1600" is several generations on from N600, which is probably the slowest you can get these days. The C6300 is a bit faster at AC1750. You can get AC1900 from the C7000. Go really mad and you can get the C7800 with AC3200.

Well, you did choose to buy a bottom of the range modem/router with slow wifi. You can't blame Netgear for that.
You can blame them for providing poor support. You do get 90 days "free" support for new purchases, but their system has a default response which is to try to con you into buying a support contract that costs more than the hardware. Avoid that ripoff.
If the wifi speed really is that important, is it too late to return your modem and buy something more capable? Failing that, buying a router with faster wifi might help.
