My mum has exactly the same problem with her Humax every now and then.
Unfortunately you cannot record/download tv programmes on the Humax when accessing onDemand, but you can let it get ahead of itself by pressing pause once you've selected the programme.
Leave the programme on pause for a minute or two then press play again. This should download enough of a buffer so the Humax doesn't stutter any more
Hope this helps

Is the smart TV wired or wifi? (I can't work out what is connected to what.) I use wired Powerline for my smart BluRay player. I never see any buffering.

Thanks for reply.
My set up is as follows.
Sony Smart Tv connected by cable to Humax Sat Box.
Humax Sat Box connected by Ethernet Cable to Powerline 500 Adapter in Mains Socket.
Netgear Broadband Router Box connected by Ethernet Cable to Powerline Adapter in Mains Socket ( in another room).
Hope this explains.

No Internet connection for the smart TV? I would have expected LAN or wireless.
