cant install powerline wifi 1000

I cannot set up my powerline wifi 1000.   i am trying to get faster wifi in an upstairs room for my son's desktop computer   his room is located directly above my office where my att router/modem is.  the configuration is there is an ethernet cable from modem to router.  i connected powerline from router (only place additional ethernet connection could go) via ethernet.   i then connected device with antennas upstairs from outlet to back of harddrive via ethernet.  the pick a plug is consistently red on both devices and i CANNOT connect to my ssii netgear##_ext because it doesnt show up as option on iphone or my desktop in office   i tried typing in ssii and it is not recognized.   I am at my wits end as i have tried to troubleshoot to no avail.   please help

Try setting up the network with the plugs in the same room, as near as you can get them together.

When you have got that working, and can connect to the wifi from the PLW1000, you can then move the plug to its intended location . The plugs will remember their configuration.

If the pick-a-plug lights don't look right after you have moved the plug, then the problem is with your mains circuit, not the plugs. Remember, Netgear advises against using plugs on extension cables. I don't  find that necessary, but it is probably a good idea to avoid fancy extension leads with surge suppression. They may also suppress the signals needed for the powerline ethernet.

If your son's desktop computer has a LAN socket, you don't need faster wifi in his room. You just connect the PC to the LAN outlet on the plug. You can forget about the wifi for the PC. Let him use it for other stuff.

If his PC is Windows, then you may have to fiddle around with that to get it to recognise the new LAN network. Once again, this has nothing to do with the plugs, it is a Windows thing. It can help just to run the network troubleshooter in Windows.
