Thanks for the quick response. As you can probably tell I'm a real know-nothing.
I'm trying to get my iPad to connect using WiFi to my computer that is in the house. The inverter in the garage hooks up directly to the solar panel connection that is tied in to the main electric source in the garage. At the house, near my computer, I am attempting to connect using my iPad.

If you are expecting the Powerline network to connect the house to the garage, then they have to be on the same mains circuit.
Talk of a Solar Inverter suggests that the garage has a separate power circuit that may not be connected to the house.
Netgear's powerline series is designed for conventional home electric wiring. I have no idea how it would fit in with anything slightly exotic.
My first move would be to check that the powerline stuff works when it is all together in the same room. That will confirm that you have got it properly configured. Then you can move the "mobile" plug to different locations to see how it goes.
When it comes to wifi, what is the source of the wifi?
Is the XAV5201v2 bundle one of those that comes with a wifi plug? Netgear sells various bundles of plugs. (Look at the mix in my signature!)
