Connecting 2 modem/router together

Hi everyone,

I'm purchasing a new modem/router combo to upgrade from 600mbps(ARRIS SURFboard SBG7400AC2) to 2gbps(NETGEAR Nighthawk (C7800)) The new one will be placed in the second floor as modem/router. I was wondering if I can connect the 600mbps to the new one and use it as a router in the first floor and make them work the same network.

Edit: My setup would be second floor Nightwalk modem/router connect ethernet cable to first floor use Arris as router only (disable modem feature). And how I can do it.

Edit: Use old device as an access point not router

Sadly, cable modem/routers lack various features that exist in DSL modem/routers.

If I understand your message, the device that you want to put on the first floor is the ARRIS box. You will have to ask them if your old modem/router can operate in different modes.

Good move. That last thing you want is a network with two routers.

The C7800 isn't capable of 2gbps speeds. If you're really getting 2gbps speeds, I'd be looking at a different router.
