Connecting on-networks pl200 to existing on-networks pl500

My home network consists (on the same wiring branch) of a powerline pair (Zyxel) connecting my loft modem to my router in tghe study, AND a pair of On-networks (support taken over by netgear according to their site) PL500s connecting my router to my sons bedroom computer. All works well. However, I also have an old pair of PL200's which I would like to add to the PL500 network to provide up to three devices connected to the PL500 attached to the router. I have singularly failed to get the four PL devices to all see each other. I have used the security button method and the reset method with  no success. I also have a Zyxel program to "write" keys to the PL adapters (used with the Zyxel adapters on the modem to router link) - but that only seems to write to the PL500's. I was led to believe that the PL500's and PL200's could co-exist on the same network - is this wrong or is there a method to make them work?

Studiously following the instructions how to add a PLA to an existing network repeatedly failed and always resulted in just two PLA's being paired. Eventually I managed to write the same network name into all four devices using the Zyxel program, but even that required the program to be restarted after the first two devices. But now I have all four PLA's creating a single network.
