Do I need a router?
The box says you can "Connect to the router or modem". I tried connecting the base (the one with no antennas) directly to the Xfinity modem (modem only, not modem+router) and I get a connection to the wifi on the other box, but no access to the internet. Does that mean I can't use it without a router? (in that case, the box is kind of misleading).

You'll have to tell us more about nthis Xfinity modem. That could mean anything.
Does the modem have a LAN socket?
That's where you plug in the powerline device.
