Dysfunctional Powerline Adapter (possibly due to Solar)

Hi,

 

I own a powerline adapter which is said to transmit Ethernet across 110 V in-house

power outlets. I was hoping to use this to extend network range inside the household but

it was not working out of the box. The power light is the only one of three lights

to turn on during assumed functional state of device.

 

The unit is

Powerline 1200 Extender (PLP1200)

 

IT troubleshooting knowledge is experienced, but on the software side.

 

Please confirm that I am also not missing additional units for this product to work.

Assumption is there are at least two such units necessary to be plugged in

at different plugpoints. One plugged into Ethernet source and the other plugged

into target device.

Also abetting is possible voltage threshold lockout due to solar electric

power source on the house. Pls provide guidance

    That's about right. Connect one plug to router, connect other stuff to "remote" plug.

     

    Powerline is sensitive to the local mains network. Plugs don't like noisy mains or circuits with too many obstacles in them, like fuse boxes and trip switches.

     

    A good test of the plugs is to have them sitting next to each other on the same mains circuit. Then thee is much less wiring to get between them and mess up the signal that Powerline uses to transmit data. You should then see the green light signifying that the two plugs are talking to each other. You can then put the remote plug somewhere else and see if it still talks to the router's plug.

    Alien territory to me. But it if means that you have exotic mains wiring that could complicate matters.
