    An Ethernet Y Adapter usually only allows one piece of equipment to make a connection through the Lan cable at any one time.  It cannot be used as a 'splitter' providing an ethernet connection to two pieces of equipment simultaneously (a switch would work in this case).

     

    What else are you trying to connect?  If the PC can reach the modem, both the computer and the powerline adapter should be connected to the modem with separate lan cables.  The other piece of equipment would then connect to your other powerline adapter
