Confirmed with customer support via chat a few minutes ago (after going back and forth for almost 25 mins). There software is not compatible with Mavericks at the moment:
Me: I think the device is working fine. I can access the wireless internet. I just cannot configure anything through the Powerline Utility because I believe the software from Netgear may not yet be up to date to work with Mavericks
Janice Mae: As I checked, you are correct. The utility that is currently available is not compatible with OS Mavericks. We are still looking forward for the utility that will release soon.
Me: Perfect! That is an answer :)
Janice Mae: As of now, we recommend to use different computer that we can use for the adapter to secure the Powerline network.
Me: Is there any indication when or how soon the software will be available to work on Mavericks?
Me: Now that is interesting...if I secure the network with another computer, Say a windows based one, will it be secure when I then access the wireless network with any other device?
Janice Mae: NETGEAR will send you an email if there is a newer software version available for the XWN5001 adapter.
Janice Mae: Yes, that will be secured on the other devices after setting it up.
Me: Janice Mae...you just made my day :)
