Thanks, James.
I tried that, as well as several different outlets around the house just for fun! No power to the extender. I called the help line and they tried to convince me that they needed to update my firmware and config of my system for the unit to power up - and if that did fix it I would be on th hook for a 2 year sevice agreement costing $149.99.

If it did not work, you can replace it from the store where you purchased it since it might be defective.

Regarding NetGear hotline- be aware that I was told by the tech that they pinged my line and found I had been hacked and was most likely infected by a virus- and that was causal for my dead unit not powering up. After 40 minutes of trying to get support on the power issue and telling them I didn't need a 2 year service contract, I finally just excused myself from the call. I then called my internet providers security group and conveyed what had happened and what was reported. They looked at my service and reported all clear. I feel like NetGear was fishing for sales of the service contracts- not addressing the customers issue.
- JamesGLSep 19, 2015NETGEAR Employee Retired
Good to know your issue has been resolved.
Regarding your contact with NETGEAR support, did they provide you a case number? When calling NETGEAR support, they will provide you a case number as referrence. If no case number provided, it could be that you have dialed a different number.
