Powerline 1200

I wonder if you can help please? I have an issue with my internet connection.

I have an office at the bottom of the garden and connect my pc to the router in the house via a cable and a Netgear Powerline 1200.  I am still using Windows 7. When I finish in the evening both the computer and that Netgear kit are turned off.

There is a another Netgear Powerline 1200 in an office in the house that connects another desktop that uses Windows 10.  That machine is rarely used.

The router and the attached Netgear 1200 are left on overnight (the router is also the source of wifi for the rest of the family.

When I start in the morning on the Windows 7 machine I always have issues with getting a good connection.  The machine will work for 10 – 15 minutes and then I get one of two messages; ‘Default gateway is not available’ or ‘Does not have a valid IP configuration’.  Whilst this is going on both of the blocks have three green lights. Turning off the Netgear in the office and the one attached to the router for a minute will re-establish the connection – for 10 – 15 minutes.  This goes on for a few cycles and then after about an hour everything works as it should for the balance of the day.  However, by them I am pretty fed up..

This was not an issue until about four months ago.

Not sure if this is an internet provider problem (Virgin)? (Although the wifi works fine whilst all of this is going on)

Or is it a Netgear problem – do they wear out?

A computer problem – it does everything else that it should effectively?

A Windows 7 problem?

If you have any suggestions I would be really grateful.

Thanks in anticipation

Take care

Regards

It is hard to unravel that saga. But unless configured otherwise, Powerline plugs can go into "sleep mode". At one time that was the default setting

I'm afraid I do not, and will not, try to work out, or explain, how to fix this, or anything else, in Windows 7.

With Microsoft no longer protecting these systems it is anyone's guess as to what may have infected you.

If you are really fed up with what happens at your end, you will move into the 21st century.

Sorry to be so brutal. Maybe someone else can tell you how to hack your old system.
