In my house nothing has changed. The only thing that comes to my mind is that my next door neighbors are renovating.
So there is quite some drilling, sawing etc. Can their use of electrical equipment crash my Powerline adapters?

In my experience electrical power tools are among the electrically noisiest things around.
Turn on a radio and listen for all those crackles and pops.

Yeah, true!
But it is in a different house, separate electrical circuit. Pretty bad if they can mess up my Powerlines.

Sounds like power saving mode could be interfering with them, and they are not 'waking up' properly when needed.
Have you tried going into the settings (through the Powerline Utility or Genie) and disabling power saving mode?
Would be interesting to see if this makes a difference.
