Powerline PL1000 loss of speed
hi there
I have home internet via 4G mobile broadband device. I average about 50MBPS. I have tried to use the powerline adaptor to extned the range to my home office. one PL is connected to the wifif router, and the other connected directed to my laptop vioa the 2nd PL adaptor.
There is a signiifcant drop in speeds between both. For example my wifi downstairs will get 50+MPBS and when i check speed in my home office, it may by 0.5MPBS - rendering it unworkable.
The PL adaptors are about 20metres (60ft) in a straight line from each other.
But even when i switch the adpator to a closer location, theres still huge dropout on speed.
Althoguh we recently renovated the house there is still old wiring - is that the issue?
Any thoughts, or should i just return it and get a range extender.
Thanks
Anthony

many things impact powerline.
it could be.
1. The old wiring.
2. arc fault breakers
3. gfci outlets
4. surge protectors
5. bad/cheap cell phone chargers
6. cheap electronics injecting noise in the line
7. high draw appliances
8. even electronics that are going bad could cause noise in the line
9. Distance is hard to predict with powerline because everything traces back to the main breaker board. Technically your device might be closer, but the wiring might actually be causing it further apart.
You might be right that an extender might be a better option. You can try troubleshooting by unplugging devices to see if its something injecting noise into the line. Easy test? put both powerline devices on the same circuit without anything else plugged in. If they do fine, they're functioning fine and its one of the things above.
