Powerline XAV5001 not showing on the Netgear utility
Hi, I have 3 power line adaptors connected to my network via my windows 10 PC and talktalk router. All adaptors show 3 green LEDs and are supplying internet connection. My issue started when I updat...

Hi,
Success!! It wasn't the Ethernet cable. However the suggestion to try a wireless device seems to have done the trick. Initially when I used my windows XP laptop the utility showed the adaptors. When I reset the security the screen went blank with no adaptors showing. I thought I had blown it. However the next day after taking a brave pill I tried connecting the two adaptors separately to my normal PC just to check the security again and noticed that the security padlock was now in the open position. The main PC showed all adaptors connected on the network. I put them back in there normal positions and connected my devices including the fussy network player and hey presto it is back on line.
Thank you for your help and patience.

Hi,
Thank you for the quick response. Partial success. I downloaded the Netgear Utility via your link and it was obviously a later version than the one I had. Once installed it picked up and recognised all the adaptors and stated that they were all unnamed but their software was up to date. When i tried to change the encryption key on the adaptors as you advised I clicked the default option and then a further screen appeared asked for device password. The first adaptor in the list had its password filled in but concealed by xxxxxxx. The second and third adaptor passwords were missing so I carefully typed it in for the second adaptor and it states it is the wrong password. Did not go any further and decided to report back to you.
Thanks for the help so far,

Ok so the Utility has found all three, thats good. Which one of the three is the problem adapter? I would still be inclined to put the firmware onto it again (even though it already has it) just to reset it and know you have a fresh install of it. Do this by attaching directly to this one with an ethernet cable and running the firmware update utility in my previous post.
The password for the connected adapter will always show xxxxxxxxxx as the Utility doesn't need it - it is connected by an ethernet cable so doesn't need to authenticate by using a password.
Hope this helps

Hi,
I am afraid that I am no further forward towards a solution.
I have as you suggested connected each of my three adaptors by Ethernet cable to my PC and run the the firmware update utility. With each adaptor connected I get the same dialogue box appear saying no netgear adaptor detected. When I try to reset the security on each adaptor despite entering the correct password the utility states that it is the wrong password. I wonder if I changed the unnamed setting to another name if that would make any difference? So it appears that whatever the issue is it effects all three adaptors, despite them still showing three green LEDs and feeding internet to the devices that they are connected to.
Hoping you will be able to make sense of this.

It does seem strange. Have you tried changing the Ethernet cable connecting to the PC to rule out a faulty cable? Can you run the Genie app on a mobile phone or Tablet to see if you have any better luck wirelessly ?
