Hi,
Success!! It wasn't the Ethernet cable. However the suggestion to try a wireless device seems to have done the trick. Initially when I used my windows XP laptop the utility showed the adaptors. When I reset the security the screen went blank with no adaptors showing. I thought I had blown it. However the next day after taking a brave pill I tried connecting the two adaptors separately to my normal PC just to check the security again and noticed that the security padlock was now in the open position. The main PC showed all adaptors connected on the network. I put them back in there normal positions and connected my devices including the fussy network player and hey presto it is back on line.
Thank you for your help and patience.

It does seem strange. Have you tried changing the Ethernet cable connecting to the PC to rule out a faulty cable? Can you run the Genie app on a mobile phone or Tablet to see if you have any better luck wirelessly ?

I'm glad you've managed to solve it.

Hi,
Just a short PostScript. After the elation of fixing the issue it occurred to me that it might useful for other users if I clarified the fix. I think your initial suspicion about it being a security issue was correct and the solution was getting all the adaptors in sync on the same default code. Your suggestion to use a wireless device to try to achieve this I think was the clever part. My windows XP laptop got the job done thank goodness.
Anyway thanks again,
Regards
