Problems with connectivity XAV5001 and XAV5004

I have two XAV5001s - "A" is plugged into my router, "B" is upstairs for my wife's computer (direct plug, no powerstrips).

I also added an XAV5004 4 port adapter which connects to my DVD and AppleTV.

When it works, it works well.

The 5004 will go into power saving mode (orange) and then wake up when I turn on my DVD or AppleTV - green and blue LEDs.

So far, so good.

However, the 5001 "A" device will go into standby and not come out unless my PC in the same room is also out of standby (WTF?).

This is a problem 'cause I always put my PC in standby - and I shouldn't have to have my PC on just to use Netflix on my DVD or my AppleTV.

This makes no sense to me at all. The 5001 is plugged into the wall and my router - why does it have anything at all to do with my local PC?

As well, the Powerline utility (v2.0.0.8) sometimes will and sometimes will not show the 5001 "B" (simply doesn't show) and the 5004 (shows as UNKNOWN) sometimes with a yellow RX line.

It seems the 5001 and 5004 are not capable of 'waking' each other from their power saving modes.

Note that I have changed the encryption key and they are "locked" when shown in the powerline utility. The 5001s have the latest firmware.

Anyone have any suggestions?

  • I have the same issue with a XAVB 2501 Kit of two adapters. It seems that the devices wake up from power save only when they recive a signal from the connected ethernet and not from the distant powerline adapter. If this is by design it is surely a defect since powrline adapters are supposed to work as an ethernet cable / network and act as such.
Since routers/switch don't communicate regularily with the connected devices the powerline adapter goes into powersave. When a windows pc connects it sends various messages that are broadcasted from the switch and therefore the adapter wakes up.
I bought the kit to connect a tv with the router but I can't really use it without resetting the adapters.
