Single Wifi Name | 3 Direct Connections | PLW1000v2 and AC1900 (C7000)

I have 3 goals. The goals are simple “Fast Home Wifi Everywhere,” under one Wifi name, and able to direct connect in three separate locations. Can it be done?:

1) I feel with both of the devices I own (Powerline PLW1000v2 and Router AC1900 (C7000)). I am able to offer Fast Home Wifi Everywhere.

2) Single Wifi Name using both: Powerline PLW1000v2 and Router AC1900 (C7000).

3) I need 3 direct connections in three separate locations. Why? Because my wife needs a direct connection for work (Router), I need one for work (Powerline), and I need one for my Xbox (I'd consider another Powerline, with or without wifi, if goal two can be achieved). For now, I obviously don't play Xbox and work, but I'd rather not have to keep unplugging my Powerline each time.

Can it be done or do I need to consider something different, like Orbi to make this happen?

Thanks,

Matt

  • You should be able to use the same SSID everywhere. Just make sure to use different, non-overlapping Wi-Fi channels to avoid competition for airtime.

Wow. You were right. Simply changing the router and power line adapter to the same SSID did the trick. It’s now under one name. My only other question to you is how would I change the settings on the powerline adapter going forward? Now that it’s all under the same SSID, I cannot login into mywifiext.net. I’ve tried an Ethernet login and a wireless. How would I login to change channels, SSID/password in the future?

The Powerline adapter should have an IP address. You may have to look it up by logging into your router. Use that address to log into the adapter.

The other, less reliable option is to move near the adapter and then connect to the Wi-Fi network. Chances are that your device will connect through the adapter. Then mywifiext.net should work.
