Powerline products work better when plugged into the wall without power strips, extension cords, surge protectors, or interruptible power supplies.

It seems like it would be easier to buy the Powerline stuff and then have the house wired to accomodate them! Of course, then I'd have the cat5e run where I want it and could toss the powerline stuff in the trash - which I probably will regardless.
