what happened to this piece of **bleep**
This used to be an excellent router. Now I can't even connect to my friends online. My powerline adapters (actiontec) will never connect. And there's no good updates? Wtf is going on here ?

When you add new powerline devices to an existing powerline network, you have to introduce the new plugs to the old ones. You don't say if you have done this. I have seen a steady stream of reports here of problems caused by not doing that.
Here is Netgear's advice on how to go about it:
Adding a powerline adapter to an existing powerline network
I found it easier to set up the new plugs nearby the existing router (host) plug, and then moving them to where I wanted them. They will remember which plugs they are supposed to talk to.

I did. Something is conflicting with this new set of power line adapters I have. The old ones are fine.

Not only that there's powerline adapter settings at all! And every update gets worse than the last

What are the make and model numbers of the old and new powerline adapters that you have? Powerline adapters simply extend a LAN cable connecting through home wiring. You are not going to find any powerline adapter settings in your router firmware, and this shouldn't affect the ability of the adapters either. Unless you mean the actiontec firmware is making the adapters worse each update?
