Will switch work with Powerline adapter?

Hi

Some product advice would be much appreciated.

I’m considering getting the POWERLINE AV+ 500 ADAPTER KIT (XAVB5501) and 5-PORT GIGABIT ETHERNET SWITCH (GS605), but I’m not sure if the solution will work for me.

In one end, the Powerline adapter will be connected to one of 4 Ethernet ports on a broadband modem/router, in the other end the Switch will be connected to the powerline adapter, and 3 devices will be connected to the Switch.

In this way, will all 3 devices have full broadband access?
And, is there a better solution?

My broadband modem is located in the corridor, while all my devices (PC, TV, and media player) are located in the living room - Currently connected wireless, but I want to wire it up. Problem is I only have one power socket in each end, i.e. no spare ones, and therefore need the past-through powerline adapter.

Thanks for reading

  • Hi,

I just read your e-mail and the network setup that you wanted should work!
Just make sure that there is a powerline LED on both powerline units before connecting the switch.
  • I'm having the same issue with the same products. Followed the suggestions given but still no good. The second a device, in this case a tv, tries to connect to the Internet the powerline begins to flicker and the connection is lost.

Have tried different combinations of restarting and factory resets but no go. The same powerline was previously hooked up to a 10/100 but tried to get some more speed out of it with the gigabit switch.
  • I'm using a Netgear 8 port Gigabit Switch on my AV Rack Downstairs, for my Tivo , Xbox, PS3 , HTPC.... hooked to a "Belkin PowerLine" going upstairs to the Netgear 6300 Router and all good.............
