I've got an XAV5001 connected to my router, another XAV5001 at a PC, and they work together well.However, I also have an XAV5004 with a DVD player and AppleTV (G1) connected, and it rarely comes out of standby. Once it's gone into standby, I usually have to disconnect/reconnect the power cable to reboot it and get it to come online.When it does, I get decent speeds. It doesn't lose it's connection once it's out of standby, and I don't appear to have any wiring issues.I have the current firmware (it hasn't changed in many months), and I'm getting really frustrated by this. Tech Support is not much help. I returned the first XAV5004 I bought for a replacement thinking it could be the device, but this second one behaves exactly the same.Does anyone have any suggestions?Are other people having the same issue?

Yes… sounds really familiar ;). Mine also stays in sleep mode sometimes. Just have to plug it in and out or do a change in the utility so it has to reset it selves.I think it has to do with de power saving mode. An option in the software to turn this mode off would be a possible solution. I recall a firmware where this option wasn’t implemented yet (I believe the one before the current one see new features http://support.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/19021). Unfortunately there is no way to revert back, because the file cannot be downloaded.

If my 5004 is in power saving mode, I can't wake it from Powerline. Again, just ridiculous.

For me just a plug in and out sequence (or use the switch on the power cord) is not that big a deal. Otherwise I'm very, very, very content with the performance and the convenience of the device e.g. streaming HD content without having CAT-5 cables pulling strough my house.You might just leave a connected network device on to keep the switch busy and preventing it going to sleep as a temporal solution till Netgear comes with a firmware update.

I'm glad you like it, but I disagree.It's clearly not performing as it is supposed to.I should not have to unplug/replug the device so that it works.It doesn't matter if it's easy or not - it matters that it's flawedand Netgear is not addressing the issue.If unplugging the device was "normal" it would say so in the instructions/setup manual. Or it would have an easy to reach power switch with directions to turn it on/off. But this is supposed to be a "set it and forget it" device, and that's not the case.I, for one, don't think they should get a pass because the problem is notegregious.

Hi Guys,

I was having the same problem as everyone else untill I found a solution.

If i set a security key on both devices by doing the push button on one then the other it works everytime it comes out of sleep.

When i remove the sec key the problem happens again.

I suspect that when the devices first see each other they agree on comms right then and there when the 5004 goes to sleep the 5001 forgets the temp key. When the 5004 wakes up it uses the same key as before but the 5001 has forgotten it and blocks traffic.

Where a key is set and the encryption is on both have the same keys in them no matter what state they go into or out off.

Not sure if this will work for all but it solved the sleep issue for me.

Has anyone tried plugging a loop back adapter into it to trick it so that it thinks there's activity?
