XAV5401 Powerline Adapter extend with a compatible Wi-Fi Adapter

I'me using a Pair of XAV5401 Adapters.  I wish to extend with a compatible NetGear WiFi powerline adapter.  Could you advise on a suitable model.

Many thanks ...... Pete

  • Most recent Powerline devices follow the AV standard, which means that you can mix different makes and different generations. The only issue if that if you add "1000" plugs to a network with "500" plugs they will talk to each other at the speed of the slowest plugs on the network.

When you do add plugs to an existing network, you should follow these instructions:

Powerline Networking | Powerline Ethernet | NETGEAR

Remember, you need only one "source" plug connected to the router.

One other thing to consider, in theory you can mix brands but it isn't always easy to get set them up.

Unfortunately, Netgear, like most either makers it seems, does not sell individual plugs. So you will have to buy a bundle that includes a Powerline wifi Access Point. The XWNB5201 is the same generation Powerline as your kit.

Do not be confused  by the wifi extenders that look like Powerline devices. If they sell on their own, they aren't Powerline because they do not get the Internet connection over the mains circuit.
