XAVB5004 and XAVNB2001

Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of adding the XAVNB2001 to my existing XAVB5004 setup but I was wondering what impact this might have. If I introduce a 200Mbps device will this reduce the max throughput of my 500Mbps devices to 200Mbps? Or will it have no effect on the existing ones and the device connected to my router will transmit at 500Mbps to the 500Mbps capable devices and 200Mbps to the 200Mbps devices? (Obviously the actual throughput figures will vary depending on what my household wiring manages to allow)

Also, when adding the XAVNB2001 do I have to change the settings of my WNDR3700 to make it work or will it just detect and extend the network with the same channel SSID etc?

Thanks in advance - if I missed this in an FAQ somewhere please just point me in the right direction.

Cheers
Andy

  • Router will nothing in play at all.

    Are you trying to run two pairs of power line devies? If so if each pair is bindded then it should co exist that way without interrupt but if are adding to existing pair as part of it then that would be a good questions.
  • Thanks for the reply... here's some more info:

    What I have already is an XAV5001 and XAV5004 (so basically the XAVB5004 kit) which means I can theoretically get a max speed of 500Mbps between those two devices - although of course I don't expect to get the full 500Mbps in reality.

    So if I now add in a new 200Mbps device like the XAVN2001 what I'm wondering is whether the total speed of all the Powerline devices will drop to 200mbps since that is the speed of the slowest device or whethher the XAV5001 and XAV5004 will continue to communicate at up to 500Mbps.

    My guess is that all devices would have to drop to a maximum of 200Mbps to allow the XAVN2001 to be part of the powerline network. Does that sound right or do you think I will still get :

    XAV5001 <--> XAV5004 at up to 500mbps
    XAV5001 <--> XAVN2001 at up to 200mbps
    XAV5004 <--> XAVN2001 at up to 200mbps

    Any suggestions gratefully received!
    TIA

  • I thought that is what you meant.

    I would think each would work max 500 or 200 speed. Personally remember someone asked this before.

    Just confirm 100% send support via my.Netgear.com portal.
  • Hi
    I've just opened a ticket with Netgear so will post an update when they reply.
    Thanks for the info so far.

  • A really fast response from Netgear and they say ... that June is correct !

    Even with mixed speed devices in the powerline network throughput (assuming theoretically "perfect" network conditions) would be expected at :

    XAV5001 <--- 500Mbps ---> XAV5004
    XAV5001 <--- 200Mbps ---> XAVN2001
    XAVN2001 <--- 200Mbps ---> XAV5004

    Which is what I wanted (for once!) so all is good. ;-)

    Thanks for your help
