XWN5001 WiFi Power led blinks amber and unit does not work anymore.

After reconfiguring the XWN5001 to a different Channel (13->14) the unit stopped working and the Power LED keeps blinking Amber.

The WiFi LED is solid Blue and the Line LED is solid Red on the XWN5001 but the XAV5401 Line LED is Off.

Manual does not say what the Amber blinking means so I am wondering of the device is stuck in limbo.

Factory reset of both devices did not correct the problem and I am only seeing the XAV5401 with the Powerline Device Utility.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • I got the device working again with an undocumented trick.

Hold down the reset button while plugging it in.

This forceps the device to do a full clear or something like a cold boot.

  • Is the XWN5001 still broadcasting it's own Wifi SSID?  Can you still connect to it, even if you can't access the internet?

If yes to both I would be inclined to connect both units individually to your PC/laptop, run the Powerline Utility and manually reset the password to HomeplugAV (the default)

Once done for both units place them back and see if you have a connection again

    Hope this helps

      No WiFi SSID broadcast.

When connected directly to the unit I cannot see it with the Powerline utility.

Tried to reset the device to factory default but no chsnge.

Blinking amber power LED looks to me the unit does not bootup.

      thanks for your response.

It isn't clear from Netgear's instructions, but you may have to reset both plugs to factory settings before you can restore their security.
