Where do you see this "adapter not found" message? Windows?
Another device may not be any better if there is an issue in your Windows configuration.

After installing from the cd and I plug in the adapter it searches and searaches and then says adapter not found. The adapter does show up when I check the system for plug ins but with an exclamation .

Windows then.
You could try removing it in device manager.
It might also be worth telling device manager to show hidden devices – these will show up as "greyed out" entries – and then remove those.
Do all that with the USB device removed.
Have you tried putting the thing into different USB ports? Windows will try to install for each port. Maybe one will work.

I'm trying to do all the steps on the adapter I have and am now on the A6210 properties and it's saying that there are no drivers installed for this device. I inserted the cd it came with and got to the point where it says insert adapter and nothing happens after I click yes to continue. Then the same screen pops back up again. I connected the adapter directly to the usb port on the computer.
