Unfortunately I did that (i.e. made sure the "connect automatically" box was checked) long ago. Any other ideas? I suspect some very subtle registry weirdness, but I'm not enough of a registry person to determine if that's true.

Hi gmhyman,
You've mentioned that it also happens on your previous adapter which is a different brand. There might be a setting on the Windows 10 that needs to be configured. Have you tried checking on microsoft team?

I agree it's most probably a Windows setting. I've done google searches, and also had a chat session with Microsoft support which has them changing to generic instead if NetGear drivers, all with absolutely no effect. This isn't a driver problem - if I disable the Ethernet interface and reboot, wifi connects as expected. The issue is detecting and properly handling the second interface. If I knew how to make the wifi primary and Ethernet secondary, I'd make a small wager that the Ethernet wouldn't connect :)

Normally, the Ethernet connection will be prioritize. I am not sure if Windows have option to set the WiFi as primary instead of the LAN.
