Netgear A7000 - "Adapter Is Not Found" for driver

Hey team,

I have a PC that already has an internal WIFI receiver (Intel (R) Wi-Fi 6 AX200 160MHz). I recently bought a new NetGear A700 WIFI adapter as I use it on a secondary PC that doesn't have an internal one and it seems to get a much faster, better connection.

I've plugged the receiver in and have tried to download the drivers but I absolutely cannot get pass this at all.

I've downloaded the ZIP files and have extracted them. I've opened up and installed it and get to the "Insert the wireless USB adapter into a USB port on your computer". I have it plugged in. But it absolutely will not find it at all. I've tried different USB ports and none of them seem to make a difference (the ports definitely do work, and I've tried 3.0 and all). I've tried switching the receivers over (using the one on the secondary PC), and the new receiver works on the secondary PC fine, and the old receiver originally plugged into the secondary PC still does not get found during the setup.

Does anyone have any idea on what to do next? I've disabled my other wifi receiver but that also made no difference.

I'm not the most computer savvy person but have some basic understanding.

Thanks heaps,

USB + Windows + WiFi adapters = trouble.

Read what appears here and you will see that just too many thing can, and do, go wrong.

So it is a case if fishing around for possible causes. Start with the USB drivers for the PC, not the adapter. Check if there are any update on the motherboard maker's website.

Then look at the Device Manager in Windows. Look at View >> Show hidden devices for old and stranded devices that might be linked to older adapter connections.

You may find that there are stacks of old USB connections in there that you can delete.

This is just one of those "suck it and see" suggestions that may or may not do anything at your end.

So it works on one PC but not the other PC?

Makes me a bit suspicious of the PC that you're trying to install it on. If you have some security or controls preventing installs.
Is this a home PC? Work PC?

Did you try disabling firewalls/antivirus/or anything else that could be blocking?
