WNA3100 (N300) PC WIFI adapter driver doesn't work

Hope you get an answer on this post. I've seen several people post issues with the drivers for the WNA3100 and Windows 10, but the only solution given by Netgear is "uninstall / reinstall / disable firewall & anti-virus" and, when the poster reports that this doesn't work, the thread just dies.
The drivers for the WNA3100 seem to have been produced prior to the full release of Windows 10 - v2.2.0.4, which is the most up to date version, has a date of 13 March 2015, and the release date of Windows 10 was 29 July 2015. There definitely seems to be a problem with this driver and so the only way forward I can see is for a new driver to be written and tested with the current release version of Win 10.
